THE
MOKI FUND
In the Fall of 1999 Mohnacky Animal Hospital was faced
with a heart-wrenching case. The following story is the foundation of the Moki
Fund. The parties involved will remain anonymous.
A dog was brought to our
hospital with gunshot wounds to the head causing life threatening complications.
Without surgery the dog could not survive. The owner of the dog was not financially
able to pay for the surgery. So he asked his family to help him. A couple of days
passed and not one family member was able to help donate
money
to save his beloved pet. Dr. Djordjevich (Chief Surgeon at Carlsbad) was emotionally
torn knowing his expertise could save this pet from unnecessary euthanasia.
While out with a friend for lunch, Dr. Djordjevich explained the terrible situation
before him. His emotional distress was so moving that his friend decided to donate
five hundred dollars to this family. For their own reasons the family decided
not to take the donation and opted to euthanize. Dr. Djordjevich's friend selflessly
decided not to take the money back, but instead to generously donate to a future
family in need. Along the way many others donated to the cause and at six hundred
dollars the Moki Fund was created.
To date, we have had many people extend their support to the Moki Fund and help
prevent unnecessary euthanization.Any donations would be greatly apreciated from
all of Mohnacky Animal Hospital's staff!
